Have you ever wondered why so many people, especially men, find it so difficult to commit to one person, even for only a short period of time? I have.
Infidelity has always been one of humankind's most compelling interests. The first great work of Western literature, Homer's Iliad, recounts the consequences of Helen's adultery. And in the Odyssey, we learn of Ulysses' return from the Trojan War, whereupon he slays a virtual army of suitors, each of whom was trying to seduce his faithful wife, Penelope. (By contrast, incidentally, Ulysses himself had dallied with Circe the sorceress, but was not considered an adulterer as a result.) The double standard is ancient and by definition unfair; yet it, too, seems firmly rooted in biology. |

I used to not be a fan of women's spaces. I thought they were a crock. If it was a way to bond, I was covered. I've got a mom, several comadres (Spanish: co-mothers) & female best friends. If women's spaces were a way to get a leg up on the battle of the sexes, it seemed absurd. There is no winning the battle of the sexes; there's too much fraternization with the enemy. |

This pic shows up when you google black woman bitch One Day back in high school I was walking down the street a few minutes before leaving to go cheerlead at a football game. Of course I was in my cheerleading outfit, short pleated skirt and all. Then a moment occurred that I know all you women out there can relate to….I look up and see a group of black guys on the street, just hanging out….My heart starts to beat rapidly, I get super nervous, damn its hot out here, I’m starting to sweat! I want to turn around so bad. Is there another route for me to get home? Okay what if I wait a few minutes, maybe they’ll go inside…Nope, sorry Tamerri, they aren’t leaving. Dammit! Okay, I have to walk by them to get to my house. I got this. I can just walk by, keep my eye on the prize (home), act like I don’t see them and keep it moving. (This was before we all started to get cell phones so I couldn’t pretend like I was on mine).

I was at a client’s Beverly Hills home one day during the Don Imus, Rutgers Basketball saga when we started to discuss the ridiculousness of his racist comments. I wasn’t surprised that she was outraged by his comments because they were not only racist, but misogynistic. But then she said something that a lot of people started to say to help take the focus off of Don Imus. “But you know, rappers have been calling women bitches and hoes forever.” I couldn’t disagree with her because it was true. Although I’m sure she’s never listened to one rap song a day of her life, I didn’t have the time, energy nor desire, to school her on hip-hop and how not all rap music is bad. |
