Please break down, step by step, how you went from being homeless to a millionaire in less then 2 years? Elon: Like most of us we have that college degree and all these alphabets behind our name. In a nutshell, I got caught up in the rat race. I was living paycheck to paycheck in the rat race up to my neck in debt. At the time, I had a beautiful baby and I had an S on my chest. I thought I was superwoman. It became too much to give son the quality of life I knew he needed. So I asked do I keep my storefront business or be a stay at home mom and raise my son? I needed to give my son more if I had the option. My husband was working. I didn’t want to miss my sons first walk talk. So, I decided to stay at home. With that in mind, like the old saying goes, “no finance, no homenance.” When money becomes a major issue, divorce becomes imminent. And we were no exception to the rule. The war of a roses happened. In a nutshell, he pulled his trump card and emptied our joint checking account. But keep in perspective, I told myself, as you are pointing one finger at him Elon, three fingers are pointed back at you. Meaning, don’t play the victim blame shame game. As long as we play that game, that leaves us powerless. Once we take responsibility for where we are at based upon the choices that you make, your life will dramatically shift and change and that leaves you in a powerful situation, because then you control your destiny. That is what a dynamic diva knows. So, I was left financially destitute. So, I prayed on my knees and stayed a little longer. That’s when I figured out, okay, what got me into this situation? And I realized that one of the key factors, like most woman, is that I bought into the programming. Which is 1) woman can’t handle money, 2) we are not good at math, 3) men are the providers and handle money better. Even though I took physics and calculus and passed them very well, I still bought into that conditioning. So I left my financial responsibility to my husband because of my fear of money. That’s what we as African-Americans have, we have a love hate relationship with money. We have a fear of money and its understandable because of the barbaric conditions we experienced and because we were once the products of slavery, that stays very imminent. It plays into how we feel about money today. I grew up with a single mother on welfare so money was always a distant cousin. From that, because I perpetuated that, if you think you are going to be poor, you will be poor. I kept creating that vicious cycle. So I created a self fulfilled prophecy that I was going to experience what my mother experience. That when I got married, my husband was going to leave me and I was going to become a single mother. It was my business was to realize that I had to get myself together because that baby was looking for me to look after him. That was my inspiration. So while I was homeless, I bought a house. What most people do when they get in that position is get into survival mode. That's when I had to understand that I was a diva. Diva means you are connected to a divine source. That you are the god/goddess that you are looking for. Like we always say, “act like you know”. That’s what I did. I bought a house. I was blessed with the no-money down program. Carl Sheets, no-money down real estate program. I was in Sacramento. My father bought that as a Christmas present in 2000. And I basically copied that program. We always think that you have to be ultra intelligent person. No, what you have to do is copy and do some of the things that wealthy people did. When we went to school, we didn’t get financial literacy. So, what I did was major in my own course “wealth 101”. I went to the library and learned about wealth. Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it will achieve. Before the million dollars showed up in my bank account, I had the consciousness of a millionaire. Because most people statistically wise who win the lottery are broke within 2 years. And why is that? Simple. Because of the mere fact that money shows up doesn’t mean they are going to change their poor money habits or their consciousness about money. So I knew I had to change my consciousness about money. So I created a book called “Wealth Chants”. I created chants like, “my income is constantly increasing,” “I am a money magnet”, “I handle money well”, “I am in complete abundance”. We are famous for saying “I’m broke”. No, my response is, you are only one thought away from your million dollar idea. So think, Harry Potter was an idea. I completely shifted and re-programmed my mind. Wealth is a habit and poverty is a habit also. I had to get out of the habit of poverty. That’s when I developed a relationship with money. If you honor money and respect money, money will honor and respect you. When you honor money what do you do, you save your money, you budget your money, you live below your means. You do positive responsible things with money. Ironically, now me and money are best friends. I love money and money loves me. I didn’t say I was “in love” with money. But, I welcome money in my life and I don’t see money as my enemy as I once did. IMPERIOUS: Speaking of money, what do you think about Karrine “Superhead” Steffans and the way she became rich? Elon Bomani: Bless her heart. I will never ever denigrate or get into a tug of war with any sister. I read an article where she admitted that they gave her back the transcript for the second book that she wrote because it wasn’t juicy enough. So, she compromised herself. That’s why my heart and soul goes out to her. I think most often, sisters go out there with good intentions to heal themselves and hopefully heal other people. But unfortunately, because of that almighty dollar, we tend to compromise ourselves. I think she uses a poor sense of judgment. Once again, when you sign those contracts, you sell your soul. That’s why I publish my own work. At one time, I sold my soul. So I want to embrace the sister because I understand that we get caught up and unfortunately find ourselves in situations we probably not have wanted to get into. I know she probably regrets what she’s doing. IMPERIOUS: What are your views on hip-hop in general and rappers use of terms like “bitch” and “hoe”. Elon Bomani: They need healing (laughs). That’s why I came up with Dynamic Diva. I’m very familiar with the Imus debacle since I graduated from Rutgers University. The reality of the situation is, and I always tell women, If you don’t name yourself and define you, someone else will name you and you will find yourself answering to that call especially when you don’t know who and what you are. That is why I came up with dynamic diva particularly for black women since we are always referenced by derogatory statements. This is a very enlightening claim that we are greater then that. I understand it, because I was once one of those sisters and that’s why I embrace them. And the reality of the situation is that they’re lost. It’s because, they think their happiness is found outside of themselves instead of within themselves. And that’s what dynamic diva is all about. The whole complete and balance woman. There is no jealousy, envy, hate, or frustration because she’s at peace with who and what she is and she knows that she doesn’t have to illuminate in other peoples eyes, even though she does. Once she realizes that, she won’t have a desire to covert into all that negative energy because she will not associate with that. I’m not here to criticize them but I’m here to critique and encourage them to do better. If you knew better you do better. And I really honestly believe that some of them don’t know because you get caught up in the hype. You get caught up in society telling you that everything you do is right, when it’s very much wrong. A real woman will not answer to anything less then greatness or less then divaness. Words are very powerful. Whenever you say a word, it has a boomerang affect back to you. What you are calling someone else is what you are calling yourself. It goes out to the universe. The universe will return to you exactly what you state. The brother who called himself murder is in jail for murder. You want love you but give hate. We are hating on ourselves literally. We live in a very hypocritical world where sex, violence, drugs etc. are glorified. We don’t get to the principles of Myop, which is the foundation of truth. Justice, righteousness, order, balance, reciprocity and harmony. That’s why I am very clear we have lost our history. From losing our history and relinquishing it, we are doomed to repeat those same mistakes in the future. That’s what Sankofa’s all about. We have to realign ourselves with that. So, we have to 1) develop a wealth consciousness, 2) become financially literate. All of us may be in college, but we are still in elementary school when it comes to money and finance. The last thing that we need to do is 3) go out there and do the work. We need to start investing. Investing in real estate, the stock market, e-business, online businesses and offline businesses. And getting intellectual property and control our works. We have to create property and protect our property. We have to come up with a resource that people need. Out of necessity comes ingenuity, that they can’t live without. And then you’re called Microsoft or google or all of these other Japanese products. If you look in your house right now, there is probably not one product in your house owned or created by a black person. And that’s what we got to get into. We have to get to the point where we create something that people need and will pay for regardless of the color of our skin. IMPERIOUS: What’s next for Elon Bomani? Elon Bomani: Right now, I’m in the mist of creating a trilogy. The first book is was Dynamic Diva Dollars- For women who aren’t afraid to become millionaires.
