![]() NIKKI BROWN: Nikki's first career was in education. She worked as a College Counselor at Prep for Prep, a non-profit organization dedicated to under-served students in New York, as Assistant Director Admissions and Coordinator of Minority Recruitment at Vassar College, and later as an Admission Counselor at the University of Michigan. She earned a BA in Political Science at Amherst College, and an MA in Education at the University of Michigan. The unique experience of attending and working at University of Michigan in the years before and after the Grutter and Gratz decisions led Nikki to law school. Nikki is a recent graduate of the UCLA School of Law where she concentrated in Critical Race Studies and served as the President of the Student Bar Association, Secretary of the Black Law Students Association, and on the executive board of the LaRaza Law Students Association.
Nikki aspires to be a local, national, and global activist. While at UCLA she was a founding member of Students Helping Assure Racial Equity, Justice and Diversity ("SHARE JD"), a coalition of students concerned about the unacceptable lack of racial and ethnic diversity at UCLA School of Law, and on the African American Policy Forum's campaign against Michigan's anti-affirmative ballot initiative (www.aapf.org/focus). Nikki was a co-founder of the Global Affirmative Action Praxis Project at UCLA School of Law (www.brazilpraxisproject.blogspot.com). Now that she has graduated, Nikki hopes to continue to work on social justice and inclusion issues - particularly with respect to access to higher education. Comments
