“You do yourself a disservice when you stray outside your purpose. Every effort you give will be worthless as you run yourself silly like an animal at the circus. Playing games and following the blind, choosing to be like the rest when you know you’re one of a kind. Playing weak when it’s your time to shine. Just play your part and walk the line.” -Rob Williams-
A million or so Atl-iens crammed onto a four lane highway complete with random car fires, multi-car accidents, speeding box Chevy’s, and the same songs replaying on different radio stations often leaves me in an impatient mood that causes me to have limited patience for roadway ignorance. I hate Atlanta traffic not because of the immense congestion or the lack of respect each driver has for the next, but because most people have a problem staying in their lane. They rove and explore the area inside their fellow driver’s domain without one reach for a blinker signal or slight pump on the brakes to let you know they are thinking about changing their mind. I was unfortunate enough to witness an accident on Saturday that involved a driver performing some sort of antics in his car swooping and swerving into another driver’s way only to coincidentally be hit and ultimately delayed in his attempt to go wherever he was going. And why? Simply because he did not stay in his lane. David realized he was not nearly as effective when he strayed outside of his lane. He was a shepherd, not a sword and armor toting warrior. He had simply been blessed with a purpose that involved him defeating an enemy that an entire army had been struggling to crush. This brief biblical story shows us the power associated with not only knowing, but sticking to what you were called to do. Had David chosen to fight with Saul’s armor, he would have probably been killed and his purpose would never have been brought to fruition. But because he knew who he was and what he was capable of doing, this boy armed with only stones and a sling was able to defeat a giant. How powerful. Can we not apply this same lesson to our own individual lives? How many giants will we face and resort to using Dr. Phil’s, Oprah’s or Montel Williams’ methodology to solve the problem instead of turning inward and relying on what we feel and what we know our purpose is. There's nothing like words that come straight from the heart. The story of David in preparation for Goliath is very relevant to your message. I agree, too often, we look for external factors to determine what direction we should be headed in, when the answers often lie within us. Your interstate example is on point, especially for some of us young men and women who live too fast for the wrong things sometimes. Thats what it is Rob, do you! When you wake up, it starts with you, when you lay it down, it ends with you.
No truer words have been spoken!
Rob you amaze me every time I read another blog. What a great example to get your point across. I agree with what you're saying. I know a couple people that strayed from things that they could have been great at in life and it's a sad to see them try and pick back up the pieces to get back on track. Keep blogging...you are writing great pieces that everyone should read. :)
Good analogy Rob!!
I agree Parkay, "Do you!" There's too much pressure nowadays to be a certain way, work a certain job, or live a certain lifestyle. As you put it in you message, live within your means and capabilities, and, most importantly, do what makes you happy.
Robert Williams Jr., I have told you a million times and I will tell you again that God has something incredible stored up for you and the impact that you are going to make on so many in your lifetime. Success is doing what gives your life purpose and flowing where God created us to flow. See, every single one of us have the seeds of GREATNESS down on the inside of us, but it's walking in obdience or staying in our lane that draws those seeds out. I'm proud of the transformation I'm seeing take place with you and as long as you stay in your lane, God will manifest the miraculous things He has for you!
Well Mr. Williams I haven't seen or heard from you in years and this is the way I run across you! It's great to know that you're using your words to please God. The only comment I have regarding your blog is AMEN brother GREAT analogy! I didn't know you could get so deep with writing. God's blessed you with a talent so shine on and be blessed!
I remember at one point you thought preaching might be your calling. Well with "sermons" like this, you would do quite alright for yourself. Keep it up.
Very well put. You honestly suprised me. Im proud of you!
Too true Cuzo.. Too often, peoplr try to walk through doors that God has locked and dead-bolted for a reason.. but some of us, being as stubborn as we all can be, have to have things our own way. Some of us just have to learn to roll with the opportunities and blessings that are being laid before us, instead of going against the proverbial grain. Well said, Light One.
Ur one of those profound brothers worthy of the title of THOROUGHBRED. Good look.
