Life Is Forever Evolving. This we know because of the friendships and relationships that come and go, the changing of the seasons, the birth of new babies, and even the growth of relatives who have not been seen in years. I found myself pondering life and how simple truths and principles have remained constant even through a century’s worth of time and changes of social principle. In a quest to become more enlightened and able to engage in a broader range of conversations, I found myself attracted to the works of Ralph Waldo Emerson. I learned that he is a huge proponent of nature and self actualization. In his piece, Self Reliance, he speaks about the need to do as the title suggests and become comfortable with self first and then move to a point where you realize that everything you need to be successful, you have been given already. Is this true? Have we really been given everything we need in order to complete the task we were called to? After questioning myself and others I came to the understanding that yes, we have been given everything we need in order to thrive. However, as with most things in life, what we have been given will only be manifested IF certain other variables are present. In thinking about this, the idea of a seed came to mind. Contained within its outer shell is everything that that seed needs in order to sprout and evolve into the beautiful plant that it is destined to become. HOWEVER, if the seed is not planted, not watered, not put in the path of sunlight, not tended to and cared for then its purpose is thwarted and it is now useless.
Is what we are any better than what we want to or could be? Not according to Emerson. He asks, “Is the acorn better than the oak which is its fullness and completion?” We think of the oak with its deep and expansive root system, its wide base and low hanging, shade providing branches as much too powerful and authoritative to have come from such a small and humble beginning. I have kicked many an acorn and chased the squirrel’s that harbor them in their cheeks, not knowing the potential that they contained. I too fell into this wayward way of thinking until I realized that the oak and the acorn are one in the same, the oak is just the acorn, empowered. How then can one say that greatness, power, and resiliency do not reside in them? Comments

As T.D. Jakes says..." Draw it out of me Lord". We already have the seeds of greatness down on the inside of us and we have to determine the type of environment we are going to surround our seeds with; One that is healthy and promotes growth or one full of pollutants that abort our possiblities. Another good one Rob!
Great blog! We all have a divine purpose that God has placed us here for, the problem is that we have trouble understanding or recognizing what it is. Our surroundings and even our owns thoughts contribute to us holding back our potential. You just have to undertand that you have spiritual authority and know that this alone can only lead to greatness.

Everything we need to be successful and accomplish our God-given destiny plan is within us. God has given us certain gifts, talents and abilities. However, He also gives us choices, which, when not properly excercised, can lead to our demise regardless of our innate abilities. Life is choice driven. We can choose to utilize what God has given us (gifts, talents and abilities) and be successful or we can choose to be like the sluggard spoken of in Proverbs 6. Selah! Great blog, Robert. I like how you relate to your audience.
once again....an enlightening message....thanks.
