Ms. New Beauty has been working since she was 14. And in that time, she's had a wide variety of jobs. She was a nursery school camp instructor with a class of twenty toddlers under two and a supervising teacher who barely knew how to feed herself let alone a baby. She was a cashier at the now defunct and very disfunctional Service Merchandise. There all of the department and store managers were sleeping together in a very dramatic and semi-incestuous fashion. MNB even had the professional responsibility of putting tags on underwear at Value City, although that job only lasted for two and a half hours. But since she got paid for that time, and picker up her check (for $15 no less), Ms. New Beauty still counts that as a job.
Her first real job though was an internship at a financial services firm in Philadelphia. This was MNB's first exposure to the realities of the professional, corporate workplace. One of the first realities she had to deal with was the fact that neither her managers nor the sales staff she supported really had any need for an intern. Thus, Ms. New Beauty learned the fine art of looking busy for 8 hours a day. One the best techniques she mastered to deal with the incessant boredom was the Sneak & Shop. MNB left her cardigan on the back of her chair, tucked a credit card in her pocket, and left the office with a pencil and pad in hand looking like she was off to a meeting with someone on a different floor when in fact she was headed out to the wonderful boutiques on Walnut Street. Her favorite worktime boutique was the Douglas Cosmetics in Liberty Place. There she fell in love with Lancome Juicy Tubes for the first time so it will always hold a special place in Ms. New Beauty's heart. MNB took a trip back down memory lane a few weeks ago and came upon such a cute little product.
