Recording contracts for new artists need to change. It is almost unnecessary by now to note that traditional album sales have dropped steadily since 2003. Music sales were down 14% in 2007. Recording artists’ moral has never been lower, much of it due to what they perceive as unfair practices committed by the record labels. |

 Note: revisited article.
We have a situation that some of us may know all too well… The storybook boy meets girl … Our two subjects become comfortable to the point that sharing secrets is no longer an issue, like it almost happens on accident. Life is good, or so it would seem. Time passes, our subjects get older and the girl has become so enamored with this boy. She finds herself thinking about “one day when” - looking at girlfriend’s children, engagement rings, and other accoutrements of a future that she covets to share with this boy whom she loves. Conversely, the boy begins to feel like the girl is becoming too comfortable or involved in his life that was up to this point, all his own. His own friends, family, home, dog, are not becoming “theirs”. |

In a post-9/11 world, Black and Latin@s have experienced a shift in how racial profiling is conducted at the airport. It used to be that if you were part of the melanin-enhanced, you could expect to have your bag receive additional inspections while you are being wanded by an “expertly trained” security personnel. Now, everybody has to go through the ridiculous steps of taking off their shoes, carrying no liquids (although they’ll charge you $5.00 for a bottle of water on the other side of the security gate), while making sure your pants don’t fall down as your belt goes through the x-ray machine. |

Why Record Labels and Music Publishers Resist Lower Prices for Music Online (and why they Shouldn’t) by Zac Locke
In my last article, I wrote that record labels and publishers should agree with iTunes and other music e-tailers to sell music cheaper online. To recap my idea: 25 per song, $2 per album. Some if it’s so good for consumers, why doesn’t the business do it? Here’s why. |

The LA Times recently ran another story about Latin@ street gangs targeting and terrorizing Black communities . Allegedly, the gangs were trying to eliminate a Black gang from their community, but the violence has spilled over into terrorizing the general Black population in the barrio. {source}The actions of these people represent the extreme viewpoint with Latin@ communities, and my own people tend to fear them (even if sometimes they’re family). However, this extreme example of racial violence allows the rest of us to not critically examine the strong racial prejudices we frequently have against Black people. |
