I saw something the other day that just broke my heart. There was an anti-immigrant march, and Ted Hayes, a Black man and local homelessness advocate was at the head of the march. Conducting a quick Google search, I came across a number of additional Black folx rallying around the anti-immigration issue . This is especially potent for Fox “News” as it provides ammunition to their claim that anti-immigration sentiment is primarily nationalistic (“See, I have Black people supporting me, so I can’t be racist…”) . Now, it shouldn’t make a difference where the anti-immigrant sentiment is coming from, but it does. I come to expect hatred of immigrants spewing from the mouths of Lou Dobbs and Bill O’Reilly, but hearing it from Black folx hurts almost as much as hearing it from fellow Latin@s. |

Rosa Parks Mankind possesses no greater quality than the ability to disregard conventional wisdom and choose his own path in life. Some of the greatest Humans in history followed the paths of their hearts and minds and revolutionized the world. After all, there is no greater purpose for the development of the conscious mind. Individualism is the sublime state of being; no greater stage of humanity can be reached. And while many may not agree with my opinion’s scope, they acknowledge its general truth.

I was reading a recent blog by the Angry Black Woman entitled “Dear Black People: Stop Embarrassing Me”. She described her mortification in response to two events: Plies interview in Vibe and Sherri Shepherd on The View. In both of these instances, famous Black people acted the fool, it was documented in the press, and many Black folx cringed as this reflected poorly on their race. {source} |

I'm always quite eager to learn from my undergraduate students; so,when I received thirteen papers suggesting that race was a social disability, I had to sit up and take notice. What did they mean that being Black – at least in the text we'd read – was akin to having a disability? How did they understand 'disability' to function? |

Ms. New Beauty has been working since she was 14. And in that time, she's had a wide variety of jobs. She was a nursery school camp instructor with a class of twenty toddlers under two and a supervising teacher who barely knew how to feed herself let alone a baby. She was a cashier at the now defunct and very disfunctional Service Merchandise. There all of the department and store managers were sleeping together in a very dramatic and semi-incestuous fashion. MNB even had the professional responsibility of putting tags on underwear at Value City, although that job only lasted for two and a half hours. But since she got paid for that time, and picker up her check (for $15 no less), Ms. New Beauty still counts that as a job.
