Dasha (dah-shah) Greek origin, n. "Gift of God"- Born in Oakland, CA, this brown-eyed beauty started singing at the age of 5. She happened to stumble upon her gift one day while rummaging through her mother's cassette tapes. Once she started to learn songs like "Baby Come To Me" and "Down Home Blues", she entered her first show later that year and won singing Mariah Carey's, "Vision of Love". After that, there was no stopping her...

She started writing at the age of 13 and spent most of her adolescent years recording, writing and performing around the Bay Area and beyond including, The Apollo, California Teen Vocal Championships and the Southern California Motion Picture Council. Now, at the age of 24, she recently graduated from UCLA where she studied music. Moving to Los Angeles in hopes of finding her own path, she has been very blessed and has been able to work with many people in the industry including Lil' Steve, Lil' Fiz, K Irving,The Professors (Mike Leslie), Bedrock, DJ Taj Mahal and others. She has had music placed in the feature film "Platonically", has done background vocals for other artists, hosted the music DVD magazine "Noyze", as well as interviews for TheClubMix.com. Her current projects include writing songs for other artists in conjunction with O Music Entertainment, 4th Quarter, The Professors and Amir Bayaan, as well as writing and recording her own music projects, which include her album, "One Destiny" and her mixtape, "Divinity Internal". When asked about her current position in the industry she simply replies, "I'm just trying to stay focused on the big picture. I'm trying to stay right with school and keep my pen to the paper. The rest is in the cards....I was born to do this".

Imperious Interview

Imperious: I see you performed Mariah Carey for your first show as a child. Who are some of your other musical influences?

Dasha: I have quite a few actually and for different reasons. My top two would be Chaka Khan and Mary J. Blige. However, there are other wonderfully talented artists that I look up to, such as Nina Simone, Donny Hathaway, James Brown, and Jill Scott. I wouldn’t say that I try to create a mirror image of who they are, but there are certain things that each one does like no other that I really admire.

Imperious: Is there anyone currently in the music industry you can compare yourself to?

Dasha:  Most people say Mary J. We both sing about things that are real to the human experience and that are our own experiences. It is easy to convey things musically when you know what the pain feels like.

Imperious: The guys want to know your relationship status. Are you single?

Dasha: At this present time, I am single. I date, but I have not found Prince Charming yet. However, I am looking forward to finding him.

Imperious: Describe this Prince Charming guy?

Dasha:
My Prince Charming would be someone who is just as ambitious as I am and supportive of what I want to do. He will be my friend as well as my lover. And he needs to know how to cook! Lol, this is a must. Something about men in the kitchen that gets to me. Such a beautiful thing. I have to be attracted to him, but I’m at a point in my life where the physical is not everything. But, there must be an attraction, chemistry, or vibe between that person and me. I like a man with a sense of humor, a nice smile, and big hands, lol. Above all, he must be HONEST.

Imperious: So, what’s next for Dasha?

Dasha: Well, it’s back to the studio for me. A lot of writing to do for others and myself. I am currently trying to get another song placed in a film. I’m pretty much going to go into a boot camp phase where I focus on getting in shape, working on my voice, dance training, etc. In addition, I am going to dive into the spoken word arena and start performing locally. It will be a busy road ahead, but it is what I need and want to do. Whatever else comes, so be it.
