Sen. Barack Obama's
former pastor today defended the fiery sermons that have become a
political liability for the Democratic presidential contender, charging
that a furor over his remarks represents an "attack on the black
church." In a speech and question-and-answer session at the National Press Club, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. defiantly rebuffed critics who have denounced him as unpatriotic. He pointed to his stints in the Marine Corps and the Navy, comparing his service to that of Vice President Cheney, who received multiple deferments from the Vietnam War-era draft. Asked about the criticism, Wright said: "I feel that those citizens who say that have never heard my sermons, nor do they know me. They are unfair accusations taken from sound bites. . . . I served six years in the military. Does that make me patriotic? How many years did Cheney serve?" Rev. Wright Calls Criticism of Sermons 'Attack on Black Church'Comments

I don't think Obama wants this classified as an attack on the Black church.
Wright has lost his mind...
Not only that, but he's made a spectacle of himself and his church. Why put on a show and be so adamant about old (but maybe true), divisive conspiracy theories? You have to be educated on all the facts, not just a book or theory that sounds believable. Is this a preacher thing? My pastor has a lot of good sermons but every now and again he comes up with some random, thought provoking theories and preaches them to the congregation. Here are a couple of examples: -Christmas was formerly a pagan holiday and Christians shouldn't celebrate, esp. since the Bible doesn't say we should celebrate the birth of Jesus, but rather his death. or -African American fraternities and sororites are "demonistic hierarchies" that were only a mechanism to control who light/dark skinned people dated.... Preachers have to be carefully what they say... Copyright 2007. All Rights Reserved. |
